Why are certain apps so slow?

Developers don't care about slow hardware. For simple programs which don't work on big problems the problem often lies in too many abstractions. And I would guess that on their development machines, even the slowness of program startup cannot be meaningfully measured.

If someone wants to see what the true potential of the Pinephone is then he can try running the Dillo* web browser. Just the startup shows that every other program is just too bloated. As an example I would point out that the start of the flashlight program, that comes with Phosh, seems slower than the start of the DIllo browser. One has a single button, the other renders many buttons, text and other elements.

Although I'm looking forward to any improvements, I'm happy with my phone as it is. Smile

* The Dillo browser is targeted at desktops.
