Pinephone UBPorts not connecting to computer
#11
It shouldn't matter whether the port is USB 2 or 3, apart from how much current it can deliver which will effect the charge rate. Data transfer will work the same with either, and capability will vary depending on which OS you're using. Most provide a usb network interface which you can use for ssh and similar. You may also get file transfer, either via MTP or as a USB storage device. Other options like KDE Connect and Nextcloud file sync will probably appear in due course.

Hi, I have the same issue.

I've tried using the cable supplied with the PinePhone (Community Edition) and connected to the USB-C port on my laptop (Kubuntu 19.10), but doesn't see the phone.

Hmm ...
My PP CE edition "Red cable" has USB-C --> USB-A

Did you get a USB-C --> USB-C cable , since you say using the cable supplied ?

I'm using a Qualcomm "Quick charge" charger , can even drive the PP, when Batt is empty.

Haven't tried connecting it to a PC yet.
Mass storage would be neat, but not a prio. right now IMHO.

If scp works , then i can manage wo. for a long time.

Hoping this is right place to post this

That's not supported right now. I suppose you could try booting into jumpdrive (the recovery mode) by holding the power and volume up key, and then plug it into your computer.

Another option is to SSH into the device. Though you need to enable SSH in ubuntu touch first. (it's disabled for security)

Hi,

it should work with any USB-C-USB3-cable capable transferring data connected to an USB3-port on the computer. The described workaround above (booting into recovery mode) is fine for me.

PP is a minicomputer, no? why should connect the charging cable give access to the file system? Probably for that, you would need special software. Actually the idea is neat.
ssh works pretty well
