Can I run Ubuntu 18.04? - supermagic - 02-28-2020

Is it possible to run Ubuntu 18.04 arm desktop version?
I require software that is only available on Ubuntu 18.04. I know Ubuntu 16.04 desktop works on pine64 but it is too old.

As Ubuntu is derived from Debian you could maybe try a similar approach as here: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=9016

Debian crashes every-time i try to install packages using apt.
Debian is very unstable as I had to reboot it 7 times already.

I believe I read on an UBPorts forum they are planning to go to Ubuntu
18.04 or 20.04 . . . .  "eventually"  ....

But they are concentrating on 16.04 for now as they figure that is the quickest way for them to offer a "Working"  OS for the pinephone.
The change has been complicated by so many changes made by the newer OSes.

If you just want an 'out of the box' working 18.04 or 20.04 OS you will have to wait,
but if you can get your hands dirty working under the hood, you may be able to 'build your own'.
