Keyboard and key mapping - ambein - 11-12-2019

What keyboard is this? It is not standard North American, as I thought it would be.

What "layout" is it. It will be frustrating as it is to have a different layout, but even more if this odd layout is mapped incorrectly.

Thanks.

I'm guessing you have one of the first ISO models. It is a UK layout. If you see the option, you might want UK with AltGr.

Yes the UK layout works! Thank you very much.

Was / is there an option to choose the keyboard layout, or was it a lottery?

By default it is the US layout but actually the UK corresponds to the characters displayed on the PBP keyboard.
And for those like me who need additional characters in their native language there are advanced options.
In addition to that : In the "position of compose key" section you can choose a key to make other characters.
For example ¸[key]+[,]+[c] = ç

The last/most recent preorder run gave an option to choose between ISO (UK) and ANSI (US). But all other previous preorder batches did not. I got mine in the first public preorder, open to forum members only, and ISO was the only option.

In the task bar you must have "En" indicated?

click on it to choose your keyboard

I didn't understand the question. ;$

RE: Keyboard and key mapping - ambein - 11-12-2019

By layout I meant choose the keyboard hardware. The physical keyboard. i.e. standard US. Using a UK keyboard for a daily driver is kind of jarring when all the keyboards I use are US.

Mapping I mean the software layer, which is easy to change, as long as one has a standard keyboard.

So I was asking are there any pine64 pros with US keyboard and why I wasn't able to get that, considering I ordered the US model.

The US keyboard models were only just made available to order on 11/5/2019. Likely no one that ordered them has them yet.
