Best distro for a server? - linuxha - 03-18-2019

I have a RockPro64 with PCIe and a SATA drive. I'm having all sorts of issues with it crashing with problems related to the SATA or Filesytem under Linux. I initially want this system to be headless but I may need the hdmi for displaying security cameras.

Basically I'd love to have an image that I can use to boot from the SATA drive (but I do have the SD car,, just incase). So what's the best distro? I'd prefer not to use Ubuntu but if I must ...

Recommendations?

Have you tried mrfixit's debian build?

Not yet but I don't mind giving it a try. I haven't quite set this up for its final use. So reinstalling won't be a huge issue.

Thanks

slarm64 (unofficial slackware) for such purposes is generally perfect, as well as for the desktop.

Good day!
Can I find out which SD card you use when booting? It is believed that many system failures are caused by the slow operation of the SD card. I'm also looking for the best version for the NAS server, tried this and that... Very frequent crashes when working with SATA, freezing ... My SD card was a Samsung EVO 32 Gb.

I also use for the initial booting sdcard samsung 32 evo (boot partition), and I can drive root partition nvme samsung 970 evo

I'm using the SanDisk SD HC 4G card. I've set it up such that once booted I can umount the card and its not needed. /dev/sda is my root (1.8T).

I do notice that the console (ttyS2) has a lot of issues and is very un reliable. I hope to get some time to switch to the new image this weekend. We'll see.
