I'm reasonably sure it has nothing to do with the video driver since I would've remembered that.

What is your desktop environment (LXDE here w LightDM)? Could you maybe try a 'sudo apt-get install xscreensaver' (and disable the screen saver) to see if it makes a difference?

I just used etcher to flash DietPi_v156_Rock64-arm64-(Stretch).img to my emmc card plugged into the USB adaptor  and so far no problems.

Hello dontpostalot, I just reinstalled Ubuntu, removed MATE and installed LXDE with lightDM and xscreensaver (disabling screen saver) but still, same issue Sad

Is it possible that DietPI is not working with an EMMC 8GB? I am asking this because for some reason I am unable to boot the OS with my 8GB but today, I tried to use my 32GB EMMC and it worked at the first try....
