Interested in Pine 64 board and Pinebook 64 - Omnios - 12-23-2016

Greetings. I am interested in getting a pinebook -64 and possibly a pine 64 board later on. I have a few questions. I live in Canada so is the website price USD. Currently the USD to can rate sucks. My main issue is how is the product is shipped. USPS to Can postal has free duty brokerage fees but Puralator charges like $50 for fees and some times so does fedex. Would it be possible to get an item shipped with USPS to Canada?

My Pine64 came from China so I didn't pay those crazy fees.

What's the release date for the Pinebook?

Pinebook plan to release on middle to late February due to Chinese New Year (January 28). Chine factory close one week before CNY and resume back two weeks after CNY. Once factory up, it takes at least another week to gear up.

OK thanks

Would we be able to install the following distros?
Doudou Linux
Sugar On A Stick
Edubuntu
Ubermix
Qimo

Would be a great little laptop for kids to learn Linux

I must admit I've never heard about any of the distros you mentioned (I was only aware of PonyOS). Anyways, you should be able to use any rootfs so I cannot see why this would be a problem (?). Take a look at longsleep's simple image. If you create something worthwhile and functional please make sure to share it -- there are others with kids whom, as I'm sure, would appreciate it.

If for kids, Kano OS (https://kano.me/)? Kano currently already runs on Pine A64. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_YnvHgh2rwjYzNWWER4a3h4LWs/view?usp=sharing

Sugar is the default OS for OLPC, their Asia team plan to port Sugar OS to Pinebook. This is still in alpa stage, please don't factor into Pinebook distro.
All the OSes that Auduoitek listed are OS designs for kids.

Will the Pinebook ship with an OS preinstalled? Also, will there be any kind of warranty on it?

The Pinebook will comes with Ubuntu OS (still not finalize, we may switch to Debian) preinstalled. The warranty period is 90days if not disassembled by user. However, once the back case been unscrew and open, the warranty period will drop to 30days which we treat as maker product that same as Pine A64 board.

Great, thanks. I can't wait.  Smile

Will it have a fan for cooling? I am hoping to do some light gaming on it, games like Retro City Rampage and some emulators. I don't know if that'd be too much for it.
