I was not trying to be critical of anyone. I only wanted to point out that at the official Pine A64 Software Release wiki page that those linked "Ubuntu" images are, in fact, Xubuntu images. The descriptions there even say "based on Longsleep"; there are no inferences that Longsleep built these specific images.
There probably ought to be links directly to Longsleep's minimal system images from the official Pine A64 Software Release wiki page in addition to the pre-build desktop system image links. That way, one could start fresh and install any desired desktop (E.g. Lubuntu, KDE, Gnome 3, Mate, ...) providing such support existed in the APT repositories (which is still a mystery but so was RPi in its infancy).
Make sense now?
Pine A64/A64+ software support "model" is still mostly a series of mysteries. I don't mind at all. It's part of the experience.

Sorry you got the impression i felt criticised, i wasn't. I also just wanted to point out that the longsleep images are only basic images without GUI and tllims answer regarding those images to be xubuntu images simply was and still is wrong. Many people mismatch the basic system with the GUI, so i wanted to be clear at this point.
All fine for me. And i agree also the software documentation from the pine guys is not at its best....

Appreciate and thanks to longsleep contribution, we built this image based on longsleep work (update to latest uboot and kernel, uninstall firefox, install midori).

I'd like to buy the Pine64 but only after it is confirmed that Ubuntu will work? There has been some discussion that it may not be supported and that is a bit of a concern.

I have the longsleep ubuntu up and running on a 2GB Pine64. There are some glitches here and there but the more users, the more information the developers have to fix those glitches
