Pinetab2 not booting. - elix - 07-05-2023

Upon arrival my pine tab 2 didn't boot.  So I flashed a SD card and tried booting via the UART adapter. I get the following message when using screen:

mmc1: error -110 whilst initializing mmc card

I've used probably 4 different SD cards.

The screen comes on but nothing displays. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

For some reason now I'm not getting any error messages with screen. The display remains blank.

I did get that error, or something similar, once, trying to boot from an SD Card, but I did persevere. I tried installing Mobian, in the hope that Mobian had included a WiFi driver, but after installing, and shutting down, I was in the same position as you. Blank screen and no matter what I tried, it would not boot.

I've had more success though, than you, as I wrote danctnix-factory-image-20230527.img.xz to a well used 32gb SD Card, and using the instructions at "using the debug UART adapter" was able to rewrite the "factory image" successfully (no WiFi of course).

I do wonder if the mmc1 error is referring to your eMMC storage rather than the SD Card, as I found the UART adaptor quite tricky to use. You seem to have to switch at just the right moment.

Yea I'm using that image. Its just really puzzling because now I'm not getting ANY output in screen.

Are either of you able to connect an external display via HDMI?

There are others with a blank screens, but the device is still booting.

No I haven't. This may be a stupid question but what type of HDMI adapter will I need?

A micro HDMI to HDMI adapter should do.

I thought I had replied to this but cannot see it.
A Pi4 HDMI cable should work as it is a micro HDMI to HDMI cable. [Image: 23y-ptab2-ext-disp.jpg]
However, it didn't work in my case although the PTab2 reported that it was connected to an external display and allowed me to switch between various modes, but nothing appeared on the external screen.

There is a discussion on going at Pinetab 2 screen no longer coming on.
