Article: LoRaWAN on Apache NuttX OS (PineDio Stack BL604) - lupyuen - 01-02-2022

Here's how we ported Semtech's LoRaWAN Stack to Apache NuttX OS... And tested it with PineDio Stack BL604. Have an awesome 2022! :-)

LoRaWAN on Apache NuttX OS

I've soured on LoRa from the USA perspective. There's no build-out except for specific uses. And LTE-NB, etc. are available cheaply. The power budgets do not seem to bother anyone. I know my uses require multiple site visits per year. Any batteries can be replaced.

Well Helium is probably the largest LoRaWAN network provider in the US. Amazon Sidewalk is rolling out its LoRa network, but it's not compatible with LoRaWAN.

Hopefully we'll get better LoRaWAN coverage worldwide when Pine64 starts selling the PineDio LoRa Gateway.

Helium is a pay-ish-for-play thing in terms of energy bills.  I personally don't like it.  And quite honestly no one cares about LoRa here.  Ok, application-specific folks do, but community efforts like TTN have no traction.  Then TTN becomes much more restrictive...  sigh.

I would love to run a LoRaWAN node with an antenna up atop our roof.  But it'd need lightning protection and anyone nearby who would use it.  I tried.  Folks need some non-financial incentive.

Oh, and we're thick with trees.  Less so as other things occur, but for now we still have that "barrier."

Yep I agree with you, we need to work out some non-financial incentives so that folks would install PineDio LoRa Gateways for free community use.

BTW I'm running my PineDio LoRa Gateway indoors, and it works OK for connecting devices around my neighbourhood to The Things Network.

I'll check in to how yours fits TTN's requirements, thank you.  Bumping the minimum to "8x" makes sense, but, um, it doesn't help with adoption.
