Wifi very slow on PBP Manjaro? - WeaseleyRon - 01-21-2021

My pbp  is 1 month old running default Manjaro it came with.

I am able to connect to wifi but I am only gettting 0.33, and up to 1,5 Mbits/s. On the same connection my phone get 12+ Mbits/s.

What are some tips for me to debug this? I'm not even sure how to do the proper updates.

So far I've done all the updates in the software center, in whatever the UI system is on Manjaro (separate question: what is the UI/GUI called on Manjaro), and ran pamac update && paman upgrade and this did some stuff.

KDE Plasma is the Desktop Environment.

As for the speed, all I can say is I find that it's slow, too. But I haven't measured it.

The more I use Manjaro the less I like it, so I can't comment too much on how to use it. FWIW I haven't really compared WiFi speeds on the PBP without Manjaro. When I run Debian I never give it any thought, and when I run NetBSD, I expect it to be slower because I'm using a slow USB WiFi adaptor, not the internal one.

What I can say is that the inbuilt WiFi adaptor and antenna seem to be lacking. I get terrible connectivity with it, and that may be the reason why it's slow.

Here in Debian Sid (unstable) I get ~110Mbps downstream and ~125Mbps upstream with built-in Wi-Fi on a D-Link DIR-890L access point with 1Gbps symmetric link to the world. I get two-three times higher speeds on other laptops, and almost full gigabit on wired machines, so the Wi-Fi card in PBP is definitely the weak link.
