@dsimic the wires are "punched down" in the connector. I find that the wires can simply be torn out of the connector, by pulling at a right angle. They can be punched down with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
This is probably the smallest thing I can successfully work on without specialised machinery and magnification. I thought it would be much harder than it it.

You're right, but I prefer to keep the end result looking "stock" as much as possible. Furthermore, my conclusion was directed toward evaulating the ability of an "average" PineBook Pro user to rewire the speaker connector.

You're right, the pins inside the speaker connector are not supposed to come out of the connector. In the factory, the speaker wires are probably threaded through the small openings on the side of the connector and "punched down" into the pins. The issue with puling the wires out of the pins is that the "slit" parts of the openings on the side of the connector aren't large enough for the wires to slide through them.
Of course, the wires can be ripped out of the pins with enough force applied, but I simply didn't see applying that much force as a viable option. Furthermore, the connector is really small so it's hard to hold it firmly while applying force to the wires.

I had to use a magnifying glass.
Maybe my eyes were too tired.

I held the connector with a pliers. The conductors pulled out without much effort.
