[Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - wideawake - 09-05-2020

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to update everyone that I finally have a stable build up that supports EMMC completely.

These images include several new fixes and enhancements. Some of those are listed below:

New Features/Fixes
  • EMMC Support
  • Boot partition is separate
  • SELINUX support in the kernel (disabled out of the box)
  • Updated wireless drivers
  • Custom kernel packaging more closely resembles the official Fedora kernel packages
  • Several new desktop environments
Downloads
Fedora 32 Cinnamon Desktop

Fedora 32 KDE Desktop

Fedora 32 Workstation

Fedora 32 Xfce Desktop

Note: You will have to login to other DE using root/fedora and configure your user account as they do not provide a initial setup wizard like GNOME.

Please let me know if you run into any issues, I've been running it as my primary OS without any.

Cheers,
Mike

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - norman_t - 09-07-2020

These Fedora 32 images are great. I'm having one issue with charging the Pinebook pro while using the Fedora 32 Cinnamon image above. I've tried a USB-C 3 amp charger and the barrel charger that came with the PBP. both seem to just hold the charge not increase it. In one case when opening the dnfdragora software manager the battery level actually dropped while on the charger.

I installed CPUFreqUtil to try and lower the CPU frequency thinking it was stuck on performance but it was using shedutil which should balance out the CPU. That setting seems to work well on Manjaro.

Any thoughts?

I have an NVME drive installed. I wonder if that's causing the power draw.

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - linuxfreund - 09-09-2020

Hello wideawake,

thank you very much for these Images. I've installed the KDE one on a SD-card. At the first look everything is working fine.
Is there any work to get Fedora Kernel working? As I know, kernel 5.7 should support this CPU.

Again, thank you.

Andreas

Now I'm in the process to copy the SD-Card to EMMC.

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - wdt - 09-10-2020

Everything works (KDE) except dnfdragora (the only not-gray button is quit, all versions, ncurses, gtk,qt)
Sleep does need the change to sleep.conf (etc/systemd), seems as good as manjaro (SuspendState=mem)
Cube also works
Only about 1/2 of my wifi dongles work, lack of firmware
(I have quite a collection, because hub needed reset checked them all)

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - SamWilts - 09-10-2020

Running Fedora 32 with Gnome.

The installer was perfect didn't take long to install and worked out of the box.

I haven't played much with the sleep but overnight it used around 30% battery. Not sure if screen was just turning off so more investigating.

Either way i'm very happy with the base I've got so far.

Will keep updating this thread as i go.

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - wdt - 09-10-2020

Sleep should be <10%/day, more like 7%
/etc/systemd/sleep.conf,,, change to SuspendState=mem
I enter/leave with pwr button, don't know how to set that in gnome
pwr button and lid magnet are the only live things when in suspend,
everything else is dead
OH, and BTW, will not usb boot, usb stick light flashes, and on and on, 20 min,
it should find the LABEL............

RE: [Release] Fedora 32 Workstation, KDE, Xfce, and Cinnamon Images - Tharadash - 09-11-2020

Thank you for this release!

It works like a charm installed on an SD card!

However, I was unsuccessful so far in copying it over to the eMMC.
It starts booting and then complains that it's unable to load some rockchip driver I suppose.
(I didn't had my phone at hand those multiple times I tried, so no photos at this time)

Any others that were successful with booting Fedora from eMMC?

I now have the unofficial Debian installed which works fine enough and boots very quickly compared to default Manjaro.

Hello Tharadash,
I'm booting my Fedora from eMMC. Just "dd" the SD-Card to eMMC. And resize afterwards. Thats all.
I have to install "linux-firmware" to eliminate the errors about USB-C-Dockingstation.

Greetings

Hi Andreas

I finally got Fedora running.
I had to screw open the PBP in order to flash it directly to eMMC.

Now, the only real issues I have are:

Headphone/speaker switching does not work --> sound both from speakers and headphones
dnf is throwing some "errors" that the kernel is out-of-date.
@wideawake, any updates on how you're getting along with the kernel?
Is there any hope that we're running a mainline kernel soontm?

Kind regards
Tharadash

Hello Tharadash,
maybe next week, when I have more time, I will try speakers and headphones. I had no trouble with dnf regarding kernel.
Also I can try to install a fedora kernel. As i know, kernel greater 5.6 supports the Pinebook Pro. And actual we have 5.8.
Greetings
Andreas
